If you love precision and consistency in your quilting, you will love using design rulers and templates. These handy tools help you place designs accurately, create repeatable shapes and stitch clean, polished lines.

In this hands-on introductory class, you will learn how to safely use rulers and templates with the ruler base and Sure Foot. You will practice proper hand placement, ruler control and the techniques that make ruler work feel steady, comfortable and achievable.

Who Should Attend?

This class is designed for longarm quilters who are new to ruler work or who would like more confidence using rulers and templates. No previous ruler-work experience is required.

What You Will Learn

A Small Tool with Big Possibilities

Rulers are not limited to straight lines. With the wide variety of Handi Quilter rulers available, you can create arcs, circles, waves, echoes, borders, geometric patterns and intricate custom-quilting designs.

Once you understand how to control the ruler and use its markings, a handful of simple shapes can become an entire design vocabulary.

Hands-On Learning

This is a hands-on class. You will practice each technique on a longarm machine as the instructor demonstrates proper ruler placement, hand position and machine movement.

Our signature hands-on format and small class size give you time to practice, ask questions and receive individualized guidance as you build confidence.

Prerequisite

No previous ruler-work experience is required. Participants should have basic familiarity with operating a longarm quilting machine, including starting and stopping the machine and moving the machine head safely.

What to Bring

• Notebook and pen for recording techniques and design ideas.
• Comfortable shoes, as you will spend part of the class working at a longarm machine.
• Rulers, templates, machines and classroom supplies will be provided unless otherwise noted in your registration information.

Skill Level: Beginner

No previous ruler-work experience is required.
