From Design to Quilt

Create your own quilting design in Pro-Stitcher Designer, prepare it for stitching, and watch your original design come to life on the longarm.

Design It. Refine It. Stitch It.

This immersive studio workshop brings together everything you have learned about Pro-Stitcher Designer and gives you the opportunity to apply those skills to a complete quilting project.

During the morning session, you will create and refine an original quilting design with guidance from the instructor. You may work from a sketch, photograph, existing motif, project idea, or simply begin with inspiration developed during class.

During the afternoon session, you will prepare your design for Pro-Stitcher, transfer the file, position and test the design, and then stitch it on a Pro-Stitcher-equipped longarm. This is where digital design steps off the screen and onto the quilt.

Prerequisite

This workshop is designed for participants who already have a working knowledge of Pro-Stitcher Designer.

You should be comfortable navigating the Designer workspace, creating and selecting objects, editing lines and nodes, moving and resizing design elements, saving projects, and exporting quilting files.

Participants who are new to Designer or who are not yet comfortable with these skills should attend Pro-Stitcher Designer Basics and Pro-Stitcher Designer Beyond the Basics before registering for this workshop.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is ideal for confident Designer users who are ready to move beyond guided exercises and begin creating original quilting designs for real projects. It is also an excellent next step for participants who complete the Day 1 Designer classes.

Morning Studio

Design Your Project

Begin with an idea and develop it into a quilting design that is ready for Pro-Stitcher.

Choose and plan your design project.
Create original lines, shapes and motifs.
Combine and arrange design elements.
Refine curves, nodes and stitch paths.
Evaluate scale, balance and composition.
Identify potential stitching problems.
Prepare and export the completed design.

Afternoon Studio

Bring Your Design to Life

Move from the computer to the longarm and experience your design as an actual stitched pattern.

Transfer your design into Pro-Stitcher.
Open and organize the design file.
Set the design area and placement.
Resize, rotate and position the design.
Use Simulation to review the stitch path.
Make final corrections before stitching.
Stitch your original design on the longarm.

Design Planning

Turn an idea into a practical design plan before beginning the drawing process.

Stitchable Design

Create designs that are not only attractive on the screen but also travel and stitch smoothly.

File Preparation

Save, export and transfer your design using the correct quilting file format.

Pro-Stitcher Setup

Import your design and prepare it for placement within a defined quilting area.

Test and Refine

Use Simulation and visual review to find problems before the needle begins moving.

Evaluate Results

Review the stitched design and identify adjustments that could improve future versions.

A True Studio Experience

This is not a lecture-only class. Most of your day will be spent actively creating, editing, testing and stitching.

Our signature hands-on format and small class size allow time for individualized coaching, design feedback and help solving the unexpected little puzzles that appear when an idea begins turning into stitches.

What to Bring

A Windows laptop or tablet with Pro-Stitcher Designer installed, activated and ready to use.
Your device power cord and charging cable.
A computer mouse. A mouse is strongly recommended for easier drawing and editing.
A USB flash drive for saving and transferring your design files.
The Pro-Stitcher design library saved to your USB drive or already installed on your device. Participants using Pro-Stitcher Simulation may use the designs available within the simulation environment.
Any sketches, photographs, quilt blocks or inspiration images you may want to use as a starting point.
A notebook and pen for recording design steps, settings and ideas.

Please Check Your Software Before Class

Participants are responsible for confirming that Pro-Stitcher Designer opens and operates correctly on their device before arriving. Please install all necessary software, complete activation, and test your USB drive in advance so your class time can be spent designing rather than wrestling with a surprise technology gremlin.

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Working knowledge of Pro-Stitcher Designer is required. Completion of Designer Basics and Beyond the Basics is strongly recommended for newer users.

Leave with More Than a Design File

By the end of the day, you will have experienced the complete journey from idea to digital design to stitched result, giving you the confidence to create and quilt more of your own designs at home.
